Bridget Savereux
Bridget developed an early love for design largely influenced by observing her designer mother, Maureen Powers, sketch and create design boards for her interior design clients.
In 2000, while Bridget was running her Vancouver based Organic Café; RAW, she pursued her hidden love for design by working towards her degree in Interior Design at BCIT and doing small residential projects on the side. The practical knowledge that she gained whilst working with contractors directly, combined with her studies at BCIT, plus the entrepreneurial experience she already possessed, fast tracked her to opening her design firm in 2005.
Her long-standing mentor, friend, and mother, Maureen Powers joined the firm and they have never looked back.
Bridget also had the opportunity to put her early years of studying acting in Los Angeles to use after being offered one of the lead host and designer roles in the HGTV series ‘THE STAGERS’. Once again her mother joined her for this journey as the “mother and daughter staging team” on the show. The show aired for 2 consecutive seasons in Canada and the USA. It was a great chance to travel, present at Homeshows across Canada and make appearances on National Television and Radio shows.
After many years of designing, writing and speaking about design, Bridget still believes that the essential element to being a great designer is listening to your clients when they express their needs and dreams…and only then will you be truly inspired by the possibilities.
Maureen Powers
Maureen began her career 30+ years ago studying at Vancouver’s leading Interior Design Program at Kwantlen College. Maureen’s visionary spirit and imagination found the perfect home in the world of design and she knew it was going to give her a long lasting career and allow her to artistic spirit to be inspired along the way.
After graduating from Kwantlen and working as an interior design consultant with local firms and furniture retailers for several years, Maureen created her first environmental design firm in 1992 when she moved to Oregon. She went on to be the recipient of the Women of Vision in Architecture Award and the prestigious US President Sustainability Award in Education and Youth. Maureen has taught courses for the US Dept. of Agriculture and schools of Naturopathic Medicine.
In 2000, Maureen moved back to Vancouver and assisted her daughter, Bridget Savereux, in designing and running the first Vancouver Organic Café; RAW. Maureen then moved onto the Cayman Islands, where she accepted a position with a large company to lead their Feng Shui Design store and Consulting Practice. While there, she also developed environmental “green” building policies for the hotel and tourism industry. When a hurricane destroyed her home, Maureen returned to Vancouver and joined Bridget in opening their first design firm together.
Maureen has been a pioneer in the world of sustainable thinking and design throughout her career as a professional interior designer. Her expertise in Feng Shui was learned by mentoring under a Chinese Master. Feng Shui remains a large part of her design philosophy as it is based on logic, science and nature being combined. She continues to teach Feng Shui workshops, paint (view her Artist's Portfolio here) and loves the process of designing inspirational spaces….even after all these years.
